12 New Bookcases

Twelve new bookcases are freshly painted and distributed among the classrooms.

First SIIS Prom!

Each year SIIS has expanded to add one higher grade-level. The final Grade 12 classroom will be built later this spring.

Recently SIIS enjoyed its first high school Prom.

Playground Transformation

In 2009, the school's playground was a barren space. Now the students have swings, slides, and see-saws.

Our foundation also set up poles and supplied equipment for playing badminton, volleyball and tetherball.

During one of my visits to the school, many of the younger students said their favorite game is badminton. This may be the first time the students have ever played tetherball. It looks like they're having fun!

New bookcases under construction; New computer lab chairs

12 new bookcases are being constructed for classroom use. Here is a teacher, students, and carpenter in one of the newly built classrooms. You can see the bookcases underway and the improved desks.

New Computer Lab

The school recently set up this computer lab using computers supplied by the Dept. of Education. The Heart Felt Fund has purchased needed chairs and installed an air conditioner to keep the computers cool.

Dr. Robert Hallmark replaced an old iron bar that was being used to announce class times with this new electric buzzer:

He also delivered new sports equipment, replaced broken seats on a swing set, and installed two posts that can be used for tetherball and volleyball.

Dr. Robert Hallmark purchased a new water tank to provide a continuous fresh water supply to the school.

Some new desks and the beginning of a computer lab

All of the old decrepit desks that seated 3 children each have now been replaced with new individual desks.

Also, some of the computers that were donated and stored away while waiting for a library/computer lab to be built were brought out, repaired and set up for student use.

There is no internet service yet, but once the Memorial Library is built, we hope to have an operational computer lab with educational software and internet access.

New playground equipment!

I am constantly amazed at how much can be accomplished at the school in San Isidro with just a little investment of money and a lot of community spirit! The HFF donated funds for the purchase of materials to build playground equipment and provide jump ropes, badminton and volleyball nets, birdies and balls, and here are the happy results:

2012 school supplies

For the 3rd year in a row, the HFF has provided a packet of new school supplies to each student at the beginning of their school year. The number of students is growing as the school expands with new families moving in, plus the completion of a new Grade 8 classroom built by village parents. Such impressive devotion and industry!

NEW DESIGN for DESKS

In May 2010 the HFF purchased 35 desks for Grade 7. After a 1-year trial period, we discovered that those desks lacked durability. In March 2011 we found a new source for durable, college-type desks.

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Robert Hallmark, SIIS was able to place an order for 80 high-quality desks now in use for Grade 7 and the brand new Grade 8:

The HeartFelt Fund is Officially Launched

All projects related to the San Isidro Integrated School are now officially under the umbrella of the Park City Foundation.

Shipment Sets Sail!

Last Sunday my friend Delene and I drove 800 miles from Park City, UT to San Jose, CA.

The next day we met Tom Felt's truck, heavily loaded with donations bound for San Isidro, at ACE Warehouse in Hayward.

Rhett (the driver), Odette (our shipping specialist), and four missionaries from the local mission office of the LDS Church converged in the late afternoon to unload the donations.

After unloading the trailer and truck bed, these missionaries helped us repack donations into approved shipping cartons.

Elder Read and Elder Chiu relieved the first crew of volunteers and worked very hard over the next couple of hours repacking donations.

By 8:00pm exhaustion set in, so we made arrangements to continue the job on Tuesday morning. Delene's friend Sheldon Teranishi arrived and, with the help of Epie and his friends, we managed to have everything packed by noon.

At last, 61 cartons and 24 computer monitors are ready to ship. Within 3 weeks, all donations will have set sail on the Pacific Ocean bound for the Philippines.

Soon the children of San Isidro will have many new books to enjoy and, for the first time ever, have access to computers at school!

I cannot begin to express sufficient appreciation to the many generous people who donated time, muscle, vehicles, books, and computers to this wonderful cause.

I especially want to thank Tom Felt for providing transportation of the donations from Utah to California and Odette Mabalatan for donating free shipping from California to Manila.

We welcome any monetary donations to help alleviate the cost of nearly $3000 to ship these books and computers from Manila to the school in San Isidro.
